Alice (Scholz) Werling-Brown Obituary

Age 97, of Elliott, on Monday, February 24, 2020, Sally left to be with our Lord, on her own time. Beloved wife of the late Albert R. "Al" Werling and James J. Brown. Loving mother of Jennifer Dugan, Barbara Dittler, Rodney Werling, Lynn Smith, and Carol Olsen. Fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Beloved sister of Irene Selzer.

Sally was born, the fifth of nine children to Irene Lamar and Joseph M. Scholz, on December 31, 1922 in Pittsburgh. She was often referred to as her father’s “right hand helper” at Scholz Hardware in Elliott. She graduated from Langley High School where she played the violin and harmonica. In 1942, at the age of 19, she married Albert R. “Al” Werling and they had five children. Sally lived out another dream of hers, and in 1948, she opened her very own, self-named retail store, “Sally’s” on Lorenz Ave. in Elliott. Unfortunately, in 1959, Al was killed in a plane crash while serving in the U.S. Air Force. She lost the love of her life, but didn’t lose her love for life. In 1971, she found love again and married James J. Brown. In 1983, James passed away, but she kept her faith. Sally's life was dedicated to our Lord and was always doing his work wherever and whenever possible. She had a love of family that was the cornerstone of her purpose in life.
