Age 76, formerly of Crafton Heights in Pittsburgh, PA, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024 in Stoutsville, Ohio, with family by her side. Laurel was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 17, 1948 to late William and Ethel (Mason) Schachter. Laurel was married to the late Frank "Lefty" Hanzlik on September 21, 1968, and was a devoted mother to her daughters, Cynthia (Shawn) Mikush and Barbara Hanzlik (Stephanie Papetti). She loved her granddaughter Sarah Mikush. She was a sister to Sharon Devey and the late William Schachter (Carole). Laurel retired from the U.S. Air Express. She enjoyed cooking at Falcon Camp and traveling with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Laurel will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 12-3 p.m. at the Kennedy American Legion-Post 862, 2275 Mckees Rocks Rd., Mckees Rocks, PA 15136.
One of her passions was to give back to the Falcon Camp, so in lieu of flowers please donate to the Richard Miles Decker Memorial Scholarship Funds, to make camp more accessible to those youth who can benefit most from the Falcon experience, but may lack the financial means to do so. Donations can be sent by mail to 7074 Timbercrest Way, Castle Pines, CO 80108, or can be done online at the following link, www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/2403903.
