Richard D. "Rick" Smalley

Age 50, of Pittsburgh, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Beloved husband of Leonna P. (McDaniels) Smalley. Loving father of Sybastian Smalley, Brazil (Ryan) McElroy, and Anastazia (Derek) Cottrill. Grandfather of Chamberlen and Jameson Cottrill. Brother of Heather (Mike) Bauer and Ronald (Brian) Smalley. Son of Ida (White) Neider and the late John Neider. Rick had a passion for music and loved to play guitar. He especially treasured spending time with his two grandchildren, who brought him so much joy to his life. Rick will be sadly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends received from 4 p.m. until time of Blessing Service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at ANTHONY G. STAAB FUNERAL HOME, INC., 900 Chartiers Ave., Pgh., PA 15220. Burial will be private. A message from the Rick's family:

Earlier this week, our 50 year old father, husband, grandfather, and friend, suffered from several massive strokes, and within less than 24 hours, was declared brain dead. After his rapid decline in health, he was taken off of life support at 4 a.m on Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, because his life insurance policy is under the contestable period, our family will not be able to receive the death benefit, which leaves Leonna, his wife, the burden of the costs in their household, future expenses, but also, the costs of his funeral expenses.
