At the age of 87, Sr. Ann Martin Schmidt, went to her eternal reward on April 27, 2022. Born in Spring Hill, PA. on September 2, 1934; baptized in St. Ambrose and given the name, Elizabeth Ann. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 17, 1950 and made Final Vows on August 11, 1957. Sr. Ann Martin taught 7th and 8th grade for 11 years In the Pittsburgh Diocesan Schools before going to Rome, Italy where she became the Formation Director for several Korean Sisters who had entered the Sisters of Divine Providence. Because of her German background, she was asked to go to Germany with those Korean Sisters where she also developed her German language skills at a couple of Higher Educational facilities. While in Germany, she also studied a three-year nursing program and received a license as a Registered Nurse. Shortly, she went to Inchon, Korea to be Directress of the Korean Junior Sisters. She also taught in the General English Program for a couple of years at Sogang University in Seoul. She is acknowledged as one of the four pioneer Sisters of the Sisters of Divine Providence Korean Province. After returning to Providence Heights, she accepted a position as Co-Director of the House for a few years. A little later, Sr. Ann Martin also assisted with various responsibilities at Kearns Spirituality Center. Sr. Ann will always be remembered for her courage, organizational skills and gracious, pleasant and compassionate personality, as she served in the respective levels of ministry. Sr. Ann Martin is preceded in death by her father, Martin Schmidt, and mother, Anna Gehrig, who were both born in Germany; and younger brother, Donald Schmidt. Sr. Ann Martin is survived by her younger sister, Linda Schmidt, several nieces and the Sisters of Divine Providence and their Associates. Fully vaccinated family and friends are invited to the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel for viewing on Sunday, May 1st, from 2–4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection is to be celebrated on Monday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101.
