Age 97, of McCandless Township, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. A native of Penn, PA, Sister Edwarda entered the Community in 1931 from St. Boniface parish. She earned a bachelor's degree in public health nursing education from Catholic University of America and a master's degree in nursing education from St. Louis University. She taught at several nursing schools and universities including St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing (28 years) in West Virginia; Braddock Hospital School of Nursing, School of Nursing at Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Community College of Allegheny County, Penn State and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She then became a hospital chaplain and was assigned to Divine Providence Hospital and then Mayview State Hospital, where she served in pastoral ministry until her retirement. Sister was an avid reader with an inquisitive mind. She remained active in ministry through her correspondence with death row inmates. Preceded in death by parents Peter and Barbara Ann Stupak Biss, sisters Anne Spencer, Mary Riddle, Agnes Brenkus, brothers Rev. Edward, OSB, and Joseph. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends and Sisters of Divine Providence and Associates throughout the world. Let it be said of her that she never wavered in her desire for growth in her faith and in her thirst for knowledge. Friends received Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. and Thursday Noon to 3 p.m. at Providence Heights Motherhouse. Funeral Mass Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel.
