Sr. Janet Schaffran, CDP Obituary

At the age of 75, Sr. Janet Schaffran (formerly Sr. Helen Anthony) went to her eternal reward on November 26, 2021.  She was born in Detroit, MI, on December 28, 1945; was baptized in Nativity of Our Lord in Detroit, MI and was given the name Janet Helen.  She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 8, 1963 and made Final Vows on March 25, 1972.  Sr. Janet is known for her creativity, very passionate response to her respective responsibilities and a great lover of the soil.  Over the years, Sr. Janet served in a variety of ministries; they included teacher, DRE, Pastoral Minister, Campus Minister, at Walsh College, Hospice Chaplain with Forbes Hospice/West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh, PA, Director of Vocations and Coordinator of the Co-Membership (presently known as Associate Program).  She received her BS from La Roche College and MS from Seattle University. Janet is preceded in death by her father, Anthony, and mother, Helen Aveni Paesano, and older brother, Ron.  Sr. Janet is survived by her siblings: Nanci Nimrichter, Bill (Debra) Schaffran, and sister-in law, Marti Schaffran; many loving nieces and nephews and the Sisters of Divine Providence and their Associates.  Fully vaccinated family and friends are invited to the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel for viewing on Sunday, Nov. 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a special Wake Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Mass of the Resurrection is to be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 29, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sisters’ Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park PA.  Facial masks are REQUIRED at all times while visiting in Providence Heights.  Livestream will be available: https://video.ibm.com/channel/Q4zW6rUvwPq.  Burial will follow in the Sisters’ Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sisters of Divine Providence, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA  15101 or https://cdpsisters.org.  Arrangements ANTHONY G.
