Sr. Joan Albaugh, CDP Obituary

Of McCandless Twp., on Saturday, December 24, 2011. Sister Joan (formerly known as Sister Mary Donald) ministered in both education and healthcare for more than 40 years. Born in Fredericksburg, Ohio, she entered the Community in St. Louis in 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Webster University and a master';s of arts in liturgy from Notre Dame. She also earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Webster University. Most of her education ministry was served in the St. Louis area. She taught primarily music and American history at various schools in Illinois and Missouri. She was a teacher and principal at Ascension School (Normandy, MO, 1966-1974). While residing in St. Louis in the 1980s, Sister Joan answered a call to healing ministry and became a registered nurse. She worked for a brief time on the cancer floor of Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV and for 15 years as health promotion nurse at the Cardinal Ritter Institute in St. Louis, MO, until 2001 when she was elected to her Community's leadership team. After serving five years in leadership in Pittsburgh, she assumed the position of co-director at the Pittsburgh motherhouse. Most recently she was involved in the music/liturgy ministry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ana (Campo) Albaugh; and brother Herman. She is survived by her sisters, Jacqueline Kinser (Ohio) and Rosalie Hunt (Florida), and Sisters of Divine Providence and Associates throughout the world. Friends received Monday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wake service at 7 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 3 p.m. Funeral Mass at 3:30 in the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel.
