Sr. Mary Kriley, CDP

At the age of 97, Sr. Mary Kriley (formerly Sr. Philomene), went to her eternal reward on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Sr. Mary was born in Butler, PA on March 25, 1925. She was baptized in St. Mary Assumption and was given the name, Mary Pauline Kriley. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on August 30, 1942, and made Final Vows on August 14, 1949. Sr. Mary taught grade school in a couple Diocesan Schools in Pittsburgh and in the state of Massachusetts. Her desire to serve as a nurse was eventually fulfilled. With her gentle, quiet, and compassionate nature, Sr. Mary ministered as a Nursing Supervisor in the operating room for 18 years, before caring out her ministerial gift to our Infirm Sisters at Providence Heights for 13 years. She took a brief sabbatical in working with some Sisters who served at St. Thomas Parish, and St. Michael Mission, in Braxton County, WV. The beauty and simplicity of those living in this area beckoned her to remain in West Virginia, where she served at St. Michael’s in Burnsville. She visited the sick and home-bound in the area, being sensitive to their physical, as well as their spiritual needs. Later she became the pastoral assistant, at St. Thomas in Gassaway, where she directed a food pantry and thrift store for the people of Braxton County. In 2012, at the age of 87, she formally retired to Providence Heights. The spirit of Social Justice remained within her DNA as she continued to volunteer delivering clothing and other items, to St. Thomas Parish. Sr. Mary Kriley earned her BE from Duquesne University in 1963, and a Diploma in Nursing at Braddock Hospital, in November of 1960. Sr. Mary is the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Kuhn) Kriley. She is the sister of Bernard (Joan) Kriley and the late Margaret Kriley, Anthony Kriley, Charles (Helen) Kriley, Cecelia (Joseph) Geibel, Elizabeth Kriley, Sr. Sylvester Kriley, Francis (Mary) Kriley, Sr. Mary Providence Kriley, Wendelin (Garnet) Kriley, and Teresa (Art) Portzer. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Divine Providence and their Associates. Fully vaccinated family and friends are invited to the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101, for visitation on Thursday, July 21st, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Friday, July 22nd, from 1-3 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held during visitation on Thursday, July 21st, at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection is to be celebrated on Friday, July 22nd, at 3 p.m. in the Sisters’ Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101.
