At the age of 97, Sr. Mary Weatherly (formerly Sr. Pius), went to her eternal reward on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Sr. Mary was born in New Brighton, PA on July 4, 1925. She was baptized in St. Mary’s Church, in Beaver Falls, PA and received the name, Mary L. Weatherly. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on August 30, 1942, and made Final Vows on August 14, 1949. Sr. Mary’s educational career included teaching and being a principal in several grade schools in the Diocesan Schools in Pittsburgh and in Warren, OH. She served as a speech therapist in Cowan, WV. She then ministered as a pastoral assistant at St. Michael’s Mission in Burnsville, WV, before returning to St. Anne’s in Castle Shannon—Pittsburgh, as a Day Care volunteer. Besides her special educational expertise, both her great sense of humor and her winning smile paved her way into the hearts of many adults and students. Sr. Mary also took a great interest in promulgating the Sister’s Associate Program. Sr. Mary Weatherly earned her BE at Duquesne University in 1959, and her MA in Speech Pathology at Catholic University in 1969. Sr. Mary is the daughter of the late James and Mary (Sherer) Weatherly. She is the sister of Patricia (Peter) Sasic and the late Joseph (June), James (Dorothy), Eugene (Helen), Frank, and Rita (James) Ruof. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Divine Providence and their Associates. Fully vaccinated family and friends are invited to the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101, for visitation on Friday, July 29th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Saturday, July 30th, from 10-11 a.m. A Prayer Service will be held in the chapel during visitation on Friday, July 29th, at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection is to be celebrated on Saturday, July 30th, at 11 a.m. in the Sisters’ Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101.
