Sr. Mary Catherine Roth, CDP

At the age of 94, Sr. Mary Catherine Roth, went to her eternal reward on June 5, 2022. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA., on August 5, 1927; was baptized in St. Martin and was given the name, Florence Catherine Roth. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 3, 1944 and made Final Vows on August 12, 1950. In 2005, Sr. Mary Catherine was the recipient of the Mother Marie Award, granted to a Sister who ministered in various Internal Ministries for the Sisters. Sr. Mary Catherine taught in several Diocesan Schools in Pittsburgh and in the state of Massachusetts for 12 years. She worked as a Medical Technician for 18 years in Divine Providence Hospital, Cambridge Springs and in West Penn Hospital. She also carried out this Ministry in San Jorge Hospital, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Besides serving in the Finance Departments for La Roche College (University), Divine Providence Academy, Providence Heights and the Alpha School, Sr. Mary Catherine also carried out Internal Ministry at Providence Heights in the Finance Department and assisted the Archivist with very complicated projects. Mary Catherine had a keen mind for organization and excelled in all the respective ministries that she graciously accepted. Sr. Mary Catherine earned a BE at Duquesne University and a Masters in Medical Lab Technician at La Crosse in Wisconsin. Sr. Mary Catherine is preceded in death by her father, Albert J. Roth; mother, Catherine Bubenheim and her older sister, Phyllis Assenmacher (Joseph). Sr. Mary Catherine is survived by her sister, Alice Dobbins (late Arthur), nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of Divine Providence and their Associates. Fully vaccinated family and friends are invited to the Mother of Divine Providence Chapel for viewing on Tuesday, June 7, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 -8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection is to be celebrated on Wednesday, June 8, at 4:00 p.m. in the Sisters’ Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park PA., 15101.
